Welcome to my page! It's my first html work, and I still haven't put much effort in graphics (I'm from the "do-it-yourself-so-that-you-learn-how-to-do-it" old school ^^^ ). For now I'm focusing on contents, but if I get some free time (ah ah what a joke! ^^^;;; ) I'll try to do something about this amazingly poor graphics. Ok, enough small talk, and here's the content!

News for UnaMoleDiDadi, a gaming club in Turin I'm in. If you're in Turin and you're searching for a place to game, do drop by! We'll welcome you (and most of our games are in English, BTW).

Newsgroups

You might be reading this page right after following a link found in a newsgroup. I do participate in several of them, and I've been for more than four years now. And as with all "old" users, more and more I'd like all incoming users (you're welcome, of course! ^^^ ) to show a little courtesy towards other users. To begin with, getting information on what a newsgroup is and how you use Usenet correctly.
I had put in my schedule to write myself a few lines about this subject, but it's all so clearly explained by users old enough to call me a newbie, I won't waste disk space and bandwidth in useless duplicates!

So I'll just repeat this brief sentence: Newsgroups are public discussion rooms inside the Internet, and they're completely different from chats, mailing lists or forums.
The first place I'd recommend you to go is The Absolute Beginner's Guide to Usenet (Netiquette) (for Italian users, the page of Gruppo di Coordinamento NEWS-IT (GCN) which is situated in Pisa and, as the first lines of its charter say, "was born to act as the principal reference place for the Usenet hierarchy it.* of Italian language posts, having as the most important goal maintenance of this hierarchy and spreading of news culture in Italy"). Here you will find all information you need about newsgroups, expressed in plain and concise form.

Once read this information, it's good practice to lurk in a newsgroup before posting. One reason newsgroups are convenient is that you may read them offline (as with e-mail): you just need to obtain a newsreader (no, I strongly advise _not_ to use Outlook! It's butt awkward). For instance, I'm perfectly at ease with Free Agent, which has also been translated in various languages.
There are in any case websites offering very good online newsreaders. As far as I'm concerned I'd recommend Bismark.it to follow ongoing discussions (in Italian language, that is, since it only supports Italian newsgroups. sorry): you can only read, but it's updated in "real time" and has a comfortable hierarchic post structure, whereas Google is only updated a few times a day, but does provide huge archives and an excellent search engine inside said archives. If you have a question to ask to the users of a newsgroup, try to pay a little visit to Google--the answer you're searching for might already be there!
